A SOUL'S JOURNEY: Thesis Work of MFA Candidate Joel Queen Opening Reception Sat, Dec 6 @ 3-5 pm Grove Arcade Art & Heritage Gallery (Asheville)
Large-scale, hand-built pieces, incised with decorations often drawn from Cherokee mythology. Burnished and pit fired. A contemporary reinterpretation of pottery of the Mississippi time period (1000-1800 AD). Says Joel, “It is my desire to incorporate the Mississippi time period shapes, designs and forms in large-scale contemporary pottery, bringing this style of ceramics to the forefront of Cherokee art.”
